A Look at Synthetic Grass Materials

Artificial Grass Products

A professional turf installation contains several layers. The standard layers are: the top turf material layer, infill, a weed barrier, a compacted base, and then compacted soil.

The ground first needs to be prepped. The soil must be compacted to act as a stable material base below the turf. Next comes the compacted base layer mixture of gravel and sand, which will allow for proper drainage.

On top of this is the weed barrier, followed by the grass material and infill. Infill is evenly spread and protects the synthetic grass by acting as a supportive structure to the blade. There are many steps and equipment required for a high quality installation, and a 1000 ft2 project for example can take five days.

Non-toxic artificial turf material has come a long way in recent years and they are very realistic to natural lawns. They vary in pile height, which is chosen based on the foot traffic and usage. There are different materials for infill as well, that are more suitable for different applications.

By having us install your synthetic turf lawn, you can be confident that your artificial grass area will hold up to the test of time for years to come and your friends and family will be impressed.

Choosing High Quality

Synthetic Turf Products

We supply durable, high quality artificial grass products to ensure that our installations last for decades. High quality turf is incredibly realistic, not only in color variation, but in feel.

Cheap, low quality synthetic turf tends to be thinner, and feels more like plastic. The color can also be too saturated and offers no variance, and is thus not realistic in feel or appearance.

Artificial Turf Frequently Asked Questions

How much does turf cost?

As there are several factors that affect the total cost for an artificial grass installation, generally speaking, a project typically ranges from $12 to $25 per square foot. A 500 square foot yard can estimate between $6000 and $9000.

What is the installation process?

Artificial grass installation involves the following stages: Taking precise measurements of your area, getting rid of the original surface, applying the various layers of synthetic grass, compacting the ground, and finally, sloping for proper drainage.

Can I install astro turf myself?

Installing any artificial turf requires know how and multiple steps. It is not recommended to install on your own because with all of the steps involved, you may make expensive mistakes, such as compacting and sloping improperly. This leads to drainage problems, and your pets for example will have an easier time damaging the turf! A professional would not only be able to advise on the best material for your use, but ensure your investment is properly installed for years to come.

What are the disadvantages of artificial turf?

How to Choose the Best Fake Grass Material

There are a lot of things to discuss in detail and consider before hiring a turf contractor and selecting the best synthetic grass material for your application. We’ll briefly bring them to your attention here, so that you can be prepared when you contact us for a deeper discussion.

How much usage will the grass receive?
Will the astro turf receive a high amount of traffic, activity, people and dogs running, outdoor play, etc.? Entry level grass materials may not be ale to with stand this kind of usage and can wear out sooner.

Density and weight of the grass
Artificial grass materials with higher densities are more durable. Density is defined as the number of synthetic yarns that are fabricated per square foot of turf material. The same consideration goes for weight. More expensive turf selections will be thicker and therefore heavier.

Pile height (length of blade of grass)
Different applications require different lengths for the blade. A putting green for example will require a very short length, vs a normal residential backyard lawn. For a great looking artificial lawn, we usually recommend a blade length of 28mm–35mm. Don’t worry, we’ll help you decide on the right length for your grass installation.
